Try this..
Open two instances of Spike before connecting a device. If both devices are plugged in when you launch Spike, it will not auto connect one. Then in each instance of Spike, open one device. This way you can manually choose which device to open. It is possible that a certain order causes the software to try to talk to a device that is already open, and I wonder if that is what is happening here. Also you mention that you have got this to work on one PC before, so it could be related to this PC.
